She received her nursing education at Mission College in Santa Clara and, prior to Job Corps, worked in various hospitals and long-term care facilities as a licensed vocational nurse. Debra started as a charge nurse and eventually became the director of staff development and an infection control nurse. She was born and raised in Sierra Leone, West Africa, and migrated to the U.S. in the late ’80s.
